A new study from the Alzheimer’s Association shows that many people with dementia still leave their private homes or care facilities.
To prevent people with dementia from going missing, the Alzheimer’s Association recommends obtaining a GPS device early in the course of the disease. This way, the device becomes a familiar aid that will benefit the person later in the disease progression, when they have an even greater need for a GPS device. At the same time, it allows the person with dementia to maintain their right to move freely.
With Stella Care’s GPS devices, you can set up a personalized safe zone (geofence) where the person with dementia can move freely. If the person leaves this zone, the GPS device sends an alert to care staff and/or relatives, who can then use a mobile app to locate the person and help them return home safely.
Fortunately, the numbers are decreasing, which is a positive trend. But there is still more we can do to ensure no one goes missing without a trace.
